The Governor: A locals place
As COO of our parent company, Momento Hospitality (the group also behind Bella Vista Hotel, just 20-minutes away), Leon Colosimo understands that often it’s the little, “and often overlooked,” details that make a venue truly memorable. And from a roaring fire in the winter, to live music, great coffee, a variety of amazing foods and intimate places to sit and meet – The Governor has considered them in spades so that locals can concentrate on the important stuff: enjoying themselves.
“Macquarie Park deserves a top shelf hospitality experience,” says Colosimo. “The area has been crying out for a better alternative for years, and The Governor is it.”
It has a lot to live up to. The Australian Hotels Association awarded sister-site, Bella Vista Hotel, New South Wales Cocktail Bar of the Year when it opened in 2012. Luckily bartender Andrew Ratcliff is on the shaker; he’s clocked time at Sydney’s award winning bars The Baxter Inn. “With the sophistication of the cocktails, the food and the brand new high end fit-out, it’s a well considered venue.” The expansive upstairs rooftop bar and eatery, Ess, is a case in point. Nowhere else in the area has a rooftop, let alone one with 20 draught options and a Japanese charcoal grill with great district views so it’s a big drawcard for the community.
So far so good. According to Colosimo, the most exciting part of this project has been discovering how different people will use The Governor in different ways. “We’ve built a place that at different times, and for different reasons, caters to all locals,” he says.
Momento has always been about creating memories for the community and there’s plenty more to come; a High Tea mid-week offer, perhaps, along with matching wine dinners, dancing downstairs and singer-songwriters performing on the roof. “On the wall there’s a quote that says, ‘there are no strangers here, only friends you haven’t met yet,’” says Colosimo. “At The Governor it’s true.” We are extremely proud of this community hub in Macquarie Park and we can’t wait to welcome you.
