Momento Hospitality continues it’s support for Domestic Violence
Momento Hospitality is proud to announce its ongoing support of The Women’s Community Shelters Pathways Home program by donating another property in 2023 to be used as transitional accommodation in the Hills area for women and children experiencing homelessness and domestic and family violence.
Transitional housing in properties like the one donated by Momento Hospitality allows for a streamlined referral process where women and children can go straight from crisis accommodation to transitional housing.
“We are so grateful to have Momento’s ongoing support moving into 2023. Your generosity in supporting affordable housing pathways for families leaving crisis has been instrumental in helping us deliver on our mission, to provide safety and support to women and children experiencing homelessness and domestic and family violence. Thank you”.
COO of Women’s Community Services Simone Parson says “Thanks to your generosity, we increased the availability of affordable housing for families leaving our refuges. We opened our eighth Shelter, ‘Biyani House’ in Revesby. We launched ‘Abbie House’ in Darlington, as transitional housing for single women from repurposed student accommodation left vacant due to Covid-19. We expanded our services to the NSW Central Coast and opened ‘Allawah House’ as transitional housing for women aged 55+, who are, sadly, the fastest growing group of homeless people in Australia. Together, the WCS community has walked beside and supported over 820 women and children as they have rebuilt their lives and reclaimed their independence.
“We’ve also advanced advocacy to better support women and children experiencing domestic and family violence, supporting the NSW Government to criminalise ‘Coercive Control in November. Coercive Control is a form of domestic abuse that involves patterns of behaviour that have the cumulative effect of denying victim-survivors their autonomy and independence. This was an historic moment. We are delighted to have worked collaboratively to make NSW a safer place for women experiencing domestic and family violence.
“We hope to achieve more in support of women and children in 2023. In March we will open our ninth Shelter, ‘Blue Wren House’ in Camden. In 2023 we will also significantly increase the number of women and children that our existing Shelters can support. The NSW Government has committed to fund the building of a number of new women’s crisis shelters, and we are seeking to double the accommodation available for our Shelters, whilst exploring partnerships to establish new Shelters in regional NSW. Our Shelters will continue to be responsible for raising around 60% of their operational funding, so WCS’s unique mix of government, community and philanthropic support will be critical to continuing our success.
