The Pitmaster Behind Fire and Brimstone Barbeque
Pitmaster of Fire and Brimstone Barbeque, Brad Shorten, has lived and breathed BBQ his whole life.
Although having previously worked as an Operations Manager for a car and truck rental business, Brad’s fascination for food and BBQ sparked at a very young age. After a holiday to The States, the country known to have the best BBQ in the world, his passion for this low and slow cooking technique sparked again, prompting him to take a leap into a change of career.
Brad’s first acquisition of a smoker soon became two, then three, and once his love for BBQ grew, he entered the world of competitive BBQ. With several titles and competitions under his belt, there’s no doubt the food here at Fire and Brimstone is top notch!
- What’s something we might not know about Brad?
I moved to the Gold Coast in Queensland in 2001 and owned an Aquarium shop for 6 years. Through this job role I got the opportunity to pose nude whilst holding a 2kg flounder for a charity calendar which was an interesting experience…
- Your favourite item off the menu?
My favourite BBQ meal from Fire and Brimstone is the succulent beef short rib which is served with a hot link, house made slaw, crisps and sweet and spicy pickles
- What do you strive to do with your menu?
To bring authentic American style BBQ to the hills. I soon want to bring a variety of BBQ specials to Fire and Brimstone to spice it up.
- Family favourite dish?
Funnily enough my wife is a vegetarian and my kids don’t eat BBQ meat… so I love to make pasta dishes like a carbonara, minus the bacon of course.
